Javier Félix (n. 1976) es un artista visual colombo-español cuya obra se centra en la corporalidad como lenguaje y el antropozoomorfismo, explorando la transformación constante de la identidad y el diálogo entre lo humano, lo animal y lo espiritual. Se graduó en Artes Visuales en la Universidad de los Andes de Bogotá (1998) y obtuvo una Maestría en Artes Visuales en la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, España (2008). Su formación se complementa con estudios en arte clásico en Florencia, Italia, y en arte nativo americano y precolombino en el Institute of American Indian Arts de Santa Fe, Nuevo México.
El cuerpo, en su obra, no es un objeto estático, sino un territorio en constante transformación donde convergen identidad, memoria y espiritualidad. Félix lo concibe como un “acontecimiento extraordinario”, un espacio ambiguo y mutable que sugiere un equilibrio inestable entre lo que permanece y lo que desaparece (Canibaal). Como señala el crítico Gregorio Vigil-Escalera:
“En la obra de Javier Félix hay un encuentro entre el cuerpo y el mito, entre el ritual y el desgarro. Cada pieza parece sostenerse en un equilibrio frágil, como si fuera a romperse en cualquier momento para revelar algo más profundo, algo que permanece oculto y al mismo tiempo vibrante”. Este enfoque se materializa en un vocabulario material único, donde las técnicas y los medios se entrelazan de forma orgánica, sin mapas ni rutas predefinidas. Para Félix, la materia no es un medio, sino un territorio donde algo tiembla antes de aparecer.
En la exposición colectiva “Metáforas de Paz” (2023-2024), en el Centro Cultural Gabriel García Márquez de Madrid, presentó obras como “Quipu for Telepaths”, una reinterpretación del quipu andino como sistema de comunicación simbólica, y “Empathies”, una pieza que explora la empatía como fundamento de las relaciones humanas (Love IDAA).
Su obra ha sido exhibida en ciudades como Bogotá, Madrid, Londres, Lisboa, Santa Fe, Basel y Florencia, donde participó en la XVI Bienal de Arte Contemporáneo de Florencia (2023). También ha estado presente en ferias internacionales como Volta Basel en Suiza, JustMAD en Madrid (StyleFeelFree), JustLX en Lisboa y London Art Fair, representado por la galería portuguesa Perve Galeria (Perve Galeria). Además, ha colaborado con ANTO Arte, una galería española que destaca su enfoque experimental y multicultural (ANTO Arte).
Cabe destacar que Javier Félix ha tenido el honor de exponer junto al reconocido maestro surrealista portugués Cruzeiro Seixas. Sus colaboraciones, como la exposición “Connections 2 Afro-Ibero-America” en la galería aPGn2 - a PiGeon too / Art Gallery en Lisboa, Portugal, con curaduría de Carlos Cabral Nunes, han sido fundamentales para profundizar su vínculo con los temas y técnicas surrealistas.
Medios especializados como Revista Crisis, Liceo Magazine, Canibaal, Love IDAA y StyleFeelFree han analizado su obra, destacando su capacidad para establecer diálogos entre lo ancestral y lo contemporáneo, invitando a una reflexión abierta sobre el tiempo, la identidad y la transformación.

“La materia no es un medio, es un territorio donde algo tiembla antes de aparecer. No hay mapas ni rutas; las formas surgen, se despliegan y a veces se repliegan, dejando apenas un rastro. Mis figuras son cuerpos suspendidos, identidades que se deshacen y recomponen en un mismo gesto. Fragmentos que respiran, capas que se desprenden suavemente. Hay algo antiguo en ellas, un murmullo que atraviesa el tiempo y queda suspendido.
Lo antiguo y lo contemporáneo se diluyen como una gota de tinta en un vaso de agua, impregnándolo todo, sin retorno, sin posibilidad de separar una cosa de la otra. En este espacio, la diversidad no es un tema ni un punto de partida, es una condición esencial: la multiplicidad de la vida, de los materiales, de las formas y de los lenguajes que se cruzan y se transforman sin descanso.
No hay respuestas ni certezas, solo un equilibrio frágil donde todo está a punto de transformarse. Lo sagrado y lo vulgar se miran sin escandalizarse.”

Javier Félix (b. 1976) is a Colombian–Spanish visual artist whose work centers on corporeality as language and on anthropozoomorphism, exploring the ongoing transformation of identity and the dialogue between the human, the animal and the spiritual. He graduated in Visual Arts from the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá (1998) and earned a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain (2008). His education includes classical art studies in Florence, Italy, and Native American and pre-Columbian art at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
In his work, the body is not a static object but a territory in constant transformation where identity, memory and spirituality converge. Félix understands it as an “extraordinary event,” an ambiguous and mutable space suggesting an unstable balance between what remains and what fades (Canibaal). As art critic Gregorio Vigil-Escalera writes:
“In Javier Félix’s work there is a meeting between the body and myth, between ritual and rupture. Each piece seems to hold itself in a fragile balance, as if it were about to break at any moment to reveal something deeper—something hidden and at the same time vibrating.” (Gregorio Vigil-Escalera)
This vision materializes in a unique material vocabulary, where techniques and media intertwine organically, without maps or predetermined routes. For Félix, matter is not a medium but a territory where something trembles before appearing.
In the group exhibition “Metáforas de Paz” (2023–2024) at the Centro Cultural Gabriel García Márquez in Madrid, he presented works such as “Quipu for Telepaths”, a reinterpretation of the Andean quipu as a symbolic communication system, and “Empathies”, a piece exploring empathy as the foundation of human relationships (Love IDAA).

Artistic Statement
“Matter is not a medium; it is a territory where something trembles before appearing. There are no maps or routes; forms emerge, unfold and sometimes fold back, leaving only a trace. My figures are suspended bodies—identities that dissolve and recombine in a single gesture. Fragments that breathe, layers that detach softly. There is something ancient in them, a murmur that crosses time and remains suspended.
The ancient and the contemporary dissolve like a drop of ink in a glass of water, saturating everything with no way back, with no possibility of separating one from the other. In this space, diversity is not a theme or a starting point—it is an essential condition: the multiplicity of life, materials, forms and languages that intersect and transform without rest.
There are no answers or certainties, only a fragile balance where everything is about to transform. The sacred and the vulgar look at each other without scandal.”
